Scarifying/Aeration is done between September and April even possibly May depending on the weather. A scarifier is similar to a mower except instead of blades it has tines. The long shape tines spin and scrape the ground and remove the moss & thatch. This gives the grass chance to breathe and spread as its growth isn’t being inhibited by the other things around it. Aeration or hollow tining is similar except small plugs of soil are removed from the lawn to allow for better drainage.
Chafer Grubs/Leather Jackets are small pests that eat at the roots of the lawn and their effects can be devastating. We can no longer apply pesticides to combat them. The products previously applied have now been banned across Europe. The new way of dealing with these pests is to use a biological product known as Nematodes. These Nematodes have a very short shelf life so we need to treat the lawns as soon as possible after ordering. Unfortunately, the cost of the treatment has risen significantly. Prices are available depending on the size of the area that needs treatment.
Ants & Other Pests have a variety of methods that can be applied by us using licenced pesticides or off-the-shelf products that can be applied by you. We will give you advice on the most effective way of applying these and how to deal with unsightly ant mounds. Ant mounds & also worm casts should be dealt with in the same way. Whilst dry and fresh disperse them using a metal lawn rake with very fine tines. Do not attempt this when wet but do it before you mow or step on them as they can make a big mess of your lawn.
Mowing & Edging the lawn is a service we offer, unlike our larger competitors. Not only does the mowing look great when done on a regular 2-week or weekly cycle it has the additional benefit that we can constantly assess the condition of your lawn and react to any problems that may appear over the year. Please note however all cuttings are not taken away and will be placed on your compost heap or in your green bin. Prices are available on request.
Turfing & Lawn Repairs are sometimes necessary. Lawns can sometimes need replacing due to the age or type of wear it has had. Pests and other factors may also mean a replacement lawn or partial repair is needed. Unlike our competition, we offer lawn re-seeding, repair and even complete or partial turfing. Sometimes the lawn can require a top dress and overseed. This is effective when a lawn has, over time, developed dips and troughs that need levelling or if a lawn has an area with little or no grass.
Spraying Hardstanding for weeds is another service we offer our customers and prices are available on request.
Whilst we offer a scarifying service you may also wish to do it yourself. Petrol scarifiers can be hired locally but if you are tempted to do it yourself when is the optimum time? We scarify any time from September through to May but you need to be careful of weather and lawn conditions.
